Strangely enough, my copy of The Otaku Encyclopedia arrived yesterday. I say strange, as I don’t believe it’s supposed to come out until October 1st. Ah well, I’m not going to complain.
After reading about it on Danny Choo, I decided that I must have a copy, so I placed an order. Just a few days ago, Borders gave me a call, letting me know that I had a book waiting for me…
I guess the best way to describe this book, is to tell you to imagine TV Tropes as a book, but only with Anime related entries. My point is that this book is ADDICTIVE, yet strangely informative. But seriously, I can’t put it down. Now, will it offer you a greater understanding of techniques and styles used by your favorite directors and creators? No, probably not. Will it VASTLY expand you vocabulary? For sure.
The book is also a huge nostalgia trip for me, reminding me of days of flopped manga and Toonami (If you noticed my deluge of Toonami grief-a-thon tweets, this is what brought them about).
On a dismal note however, with quotes like “Nyan! Nekomimi are so kawaii!” The mascot of the book will get on your nerves fast. (Oh the wonders of technology. With such high levels of weeaboo, it’s almost like your actually at a convention, without having to go!)
I would suggest you go pick it up as soon as it comes out!
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go find out what Kon Cosu is.
P.S. The dust jacket-less cover is way better.

I completely forgot about ordering this! Thanks for reminding me.
I should go do that.
It’s a ton of fun, I totally suggest it.
Where did you order it from and when is it release in the states?
I got it off Borders.com, and it’s officially released state-side on October 1st.
Awesome thanks!
get some god damn pants
I think I’d suffer many eye gougings if I read this. If not, then perhaps lots of facepalming, or some other expression of pain and/or exasperation.
But seriously guys: Nyan Nyan, Nyan Nyan, Nihao Nyan! Gorgeous Delicious Deculture! So Kawaii, Ranka-chan!
Everybody but me thinks Ranka is cute.
Wait, while I’m looking at this, is it safe for a maid that seems sick in the head dressed as a maid with a nice rack to be asking horny onii-chan what moe is?
By the way, she is the least moe.
